Dear CSA Families,
Your student’s teachers have been working to emphasize fact fluency for February. As we continue through our school year, I wanted to take a moment to discuss a foundational skill that plays an important role in your student’s success in mathematics: knowing math facts with automaticity.
One of the most important components of mastering mathematics is having a strong understanding of basic math facts; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. When students can recall them without hesitation, they gain confidence in solving problems, which helps them be successful in more complex areas of math.
Having a solid understanding of addition and subtraction facts ensures that students can solve word problems and work with larger numbers effectively. Also, having fluency with basic multiplication facts allows students to tackle problems in division, fractions, and even algebra. Without this fluency, students may not be as successful with more advanced concepts and lose confidence in their abilities.
We encourage families to support their students at home by practicing math facts regularly. This can be done in fun and engaging ways, such as through games or flashcards. By setting aside just a few minutes each day to review these facts, students can make significant progress toward becoming fact-fluent mathematicians.
Although in February we are prioritizing math fact fluency in the classroom, this is a year-long endeavor. We know that the combined effort of both school and home will provide the best results for our students.
Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring the success of all our students. If you have any questions or need suggestions for math activities at home, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we can help our students build the math skills they need to be successful in the years to come.
In partnership with you,
Stephanie Winters
It’s that time of year again. Applications for testing for our Academically Gifted Clusters for Navigator, Voyager, Explorer and Middle School students are due April 1, 2025. The form can be downloaded HERE or picked up at the CSA admissions office or from the Middle School office.
Please return the completed form to the Student and Family Office at CSA or the Middle School office. Testing begins soon. Identified cluster students need not reapply and 'watch' students from Spring 2024 will automatically be tested.
It's time to order your 2024-2025 yearbook. This yearbook will represent a lasting memory of your child's CSA experience. We hope that you will support our yearbook program by purchasing one for each of your students. Please click HERE for order form. Yearbooks are delivered in June and will be distributed during the last week of school.
Our next CSA District Rollerama event will be Friday, March 14th, from 1pm - 4pm. Join your CSA family and friends for an afternoon of fun! Skate rental is included in the discounted admission price of $10.00, and snacks and pizza are available for purchase.
CSA District Rollerama days are hosted as a "FUN"draiser by our CSA District Parent Council. Please note that Rollerama CSA Days are not drop off events and are not monitored by CSA Staff. Guardians or a responsible adult are expected to stay with their student (s) during the duration of the event.
